Novice needs starter baby help ;)

Amy Wisniewski
Hi guys I tried making a wild yeast starter by starting with 1 cup water and 1 cup flour. I have been adding 2 tbl water and 2 tbls flour everyday in the morning and stirring in the evening for 5 days so far. But only tiny Bubbles appeared and it smelt strongly of buttermilk. Today I decided to remove one cup of the starter and put it into a new jar with 1 cup flour and 1/2 cup water. I added 40 gr flour and 20gr water to the old jar. Is this fine? Will my new and old starter still work or did I mess up?

The bubbles are a good thing but don't overthink the simplicity. Each day remove 1/2 the starter, leaving 1 cup or so, then add the same amounts of water and flour to that starter. Stir it, cover it with a lid to breathe, and repeat 24 hours later. About 5-6 days it'll be ready. Good luck
