Hi
Very excited! Is day 2 of my starter and I fed it today. I'm using Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall's method from River Cottage Everyday Cookbook. Am looking forward to seeing everyone's comments and progress. Is my first time baking bread. Feeling very ambitious!

Hi Leah,
Good luck with your starter!
I also have a new starter going at home, and even after 40 years in the baking industry, I'm still excited to see those bubbles in my sour starter, its all great fun!
Looking forward to seeing or hearing about your breads
Most of all have fun with your baking and enjoy the experience!
Mike
Appeared last week in the 'Pinch my salt ' blog this great series of photos and 'how to' making a ferment/starter, following it from day 1 to completion. I think you may enjoy and it may even help. Here is the link to day 1:

Good Baking!
Hi Leah
Good luck from me too and once your starter is up and running, Hugh's sourdough loaf recipe is a good and easy one to try as well.
Happy Baking!

Hi Leah
I too am a very new home baker. I use the Sourdough Companions regularly and learned a lot from it. But recently I have come across the River Cottage Handbook No 3 Bread introduced by Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall written by Daniel Stevens. This makes the whole process seem much simpler without in anyway invalidating what people say at the Sourdough Companions. I am trying out all sorts of methods and ideas.
Every time I start baking bread I am excited - and sometimes success comes my way, sometimes it doesn't.
Best of luck
I agree about Dan Stevens book - I bought after I did my first bread course, and love the basic bread recipe - it's so consistent...makes a great loaf, easy to handle.
I have a starter from a sourdough course I did, but am tempted to try Dan's method..
I'll also agree about the excitment and the success coming or not - I guess that's the experience ..I just love the process, hands on, and watching the dough rise, and particularly the oven spring - I've even taken pics of it..oh, how sad.
Edit - sorry Leah, best of luck with your starter!! keep the faith
