Secret tip No 1. Always wash the blade immediately after slashing, minute particles of dough will stick to the blade and cause it to stick and drag next time you use it.

Hi Teresa,

Thanks for the comment, credits to you too... I visited your website and learn a thing or two from it. Great site for a beginner like me...

Cheers...

That's a great first loaf, there are a few people that wish they could do a loaf that good after a dozen attempts.

Hey Bill

Thanks. May be easy for you but not for a tool-handicapped like me . No worries, will get tool-time-hubby to make one for me.

Seriously, I think I'm doomed to fail. I've tried using a sharp knife, a craft knife, a blade, a blade fixed like this...curvy like the traditional lame. I've even tried grinning while slashing. All of them resulted in hideous tears. I think I need to make a lump of dough to slash, slash and slash till I get it. Sigh. Any other tips?

Apologies, Don, for hijacking the thread.

Hi Teck Poh,

No worries, its good to share and learn... I use a paring knife with fast one stroke action... It might be just luck that I did it nicely...

Bill, thats a nice contraption, will try it out...

Cheers....
