I made my first ever sourdough loaf yesterday, after nursing my starter along all week. I used predominantly rye flour in the loaf, and although it rose, it was heavy and dense. But it tasted fabulous, and smelt heavenly. My husband has been singing my praises all day as he's eaten his way through the loaf. Even my 8 year old picky-eater loved it!
I currently have a second sponge underway, with the aim of baking in time for tomorrow's lunch. I am so excited about this - it's such a primal pleasure to eat bread you have made from scratch yourself.
