I needed to make a challah without the bread machine, to just get my feet wet, as it were. Bread #45 is a whole wheat challah that turned out lovely, although it started a household controversy about whether a whole wheat bread can ever be considered a challah. I also received this weekend a lovely message from someone on this forum (thank you!) with a sourdough challah recipe and another recipe from a friend whose mother made a German challah that has no eggs.
The whole wheat challah came out lovely and I will try the soudough recipe next.
