Kingsley Sullivan from New Norcia Bakeries has boldly produced a brochure showing some differences between real and fake sourdough. The fake stuff is everywhere in Australia - particularly in franchise and supermarket bakeries.
Fake sourdough is a problem for both bread eaters and bakers. It is insulting to bakers and customers that a 'flavouring' can be added to standard commercial yeast dough and and be labeled as 'sourdough'....with the price of the loaf often increased substantially.
Sourdough Companion users are generally very aware of what 'sourdough' is, but the general buying public are not. We have set up a gallery to upload more examples of this scandal, as Kingsley refers to it (we agree). The FAKE SOURDOUGH Gallery is open to everyone.
