Bannetons and baskets.

Hi Chembake, I've noticed that all the bannetons and baskets made in Germany and France are made with willow cane.
Is the choice of willow cane as the material due to its ready availability in days gone by, and would the same size (8mm) in Rattan core cane (looks the same) be acceptable.

Bill, you never cease to amaze me with what you can do with your hands (no innuendos intended and within context)!

Oh my!

Notes on posting pix. You've got the plain background idea. Try to use a smooth matte surface. And, crop your pix.

I use rattan cane baskets, which I believe are common, but one of the disadvantages is the fiberous nature of the material which sometimes on some baskets has comes away form the main body of the cane.
But I've been using them for 10 years so I guess they've had a reasonable life.

Bill,

Woa, you're a genius mate... When will your banetton be ready? I'm in the queue for it...

Cheers...
Don
