Artisan Baker Associaton (Bakery Membership)

Membership to the Artisan Baker Association for bakery establishments.

As an ABA Bakery Member you will receive...

• An informative web page declaring your love of baking on Sourdough Companion, the world's most popular sourdough baking site
• The ability for you to engage with customers and to talk via blogs, forums, galleries and comments
• Use of the Artisan Baker Accredited symbol on your Sourdough Companion web page (use in other media and products is not included, but can be negotiated)
  
• Access to BakerTrade...the employment site for bakers (currently under renovation for opening later in 2009)
• Promotion of your baking workshops or ABA Gatherings should you wish to hold them

ABA Bakery Membership is for artisan bakeries who bake high quality goods and clearly describe the features of their goods.
 
The association is not interested in bakeries who play a 'smoke and mirrors' game with their customers. If you are genuinely interested in the art of baking and the wellbeing of the people you bake for....please join, we would love to have you as a member.

Membership is not automatic, and can be discontinued at any time without recourse at the discretion of ABA.

Please do not apply if your bakery does any of the following:

• Uses synthetic trans-fat products
• Adds commercial yeast to "sourdough" (1)
• Is largely mechanised with limited hand shaping
  
• Uses commercially prepared "bread improvers"
• Uses 'soft' additives (ascorbic acid/gluten flour/commercial yeast/non-organic flour containing additives) and does not list these additives on the product label (2)
• Mixes non-organic ingredients with organic ingredients and does not clearly identify whether a product is organic or not
  

1. Use of commercial yeast in pre-ferments is great. Just don't call it "sourdough"!
2. ABA tolerate the use of these additives if they are clearly declared to customers

If your bakery encourages your bakers to learn and become more interested in the baking craft...ABA membership could be for you.


Membership process

You will be sent an application survey. Please fill in the survey and return it to the provided address. Successful applicants will receive membership benefits within 30 days of approval. Unsuccessful applicants will have their application fee cheerfully refunded, minus an AUD 50.00 processing fee (we need to do this to discourage scam applications and to help pay for time spent assessing your application).
