Welcome to Sourdough Companion!

Our baking community began with the plea: Do you have an interest in sourdough bread?  That was January 2002. The call was answered by Crystal Waters, a holistic artisan bakery in an Australian sustainable community.

In December 2004, the 'Sourdough Bread Australia' gallery provided an insight into the life and work of bakers. Gallery photos began to talk with the introduction of a sourdough baking forum in July 2005; first post by sourgeek: Starter smells like paint! Sad

Experimentation and research have always been a high priority. Bakers are artists, scientists and providers. That last characteristic is a major motivation for bakers in this community, and an influence on our new name: Sourdough Companion

A big thank you to everyone who has participated here over the years. Thank you! Main photo by Teckpoh (Congratulations TP on passing your 1000th forum post!). See TP's Personal Gallery here, as well as on TP's own web site.
