Does anyone know of an artisan bakery
directory in NZ, Carla? While on the south island a couple of weeks ago I wasn't able
find any artisan bread or bakeries. I'm sure there are quality bakeries but
it's hard to find them if you don't know where to look. I'd like to see if I,
with the help of the willing and informed here, could compile a list of artisan bakeries in NZ. That way when I'm there next season I can pay them a visit. But even better, some information exchange is possible with our neighbours.I'll start the ball rolling. The NZ Baker, Dean Brettschneider

If you can help because you know of artisan bakeries in NZ please post them and I'll update this list as we go. (Maedi, can I edit posts to compile a list as more info comes to hand, or is there a time limit on the  edit feature?)

There's no time limit. You're more than welcome to continue editing and compiling as new information comes to hand.

I've been on the south island of New Zealand and I found a bakery that does some great sourdough. I thought I'd add to this thread since any of you wishing to visit NZ will no doubt want to eat bread that's edible.

I'm heading off to the south island of NZ again in February. I'll be in Christchurch for a day then heading off up to Reefton and Murchison area. If anyone knows of an artisan bakery worth a visit please let me know so I can call in and say hi and buy some good bread.

Cheers

Well there's my house if you're ever up in Auckland - and I'd give you a loaf for free! :o)

There are a number of artisan bakeries in Auckland, although I can't say I've ever bought a loaf from them as I'm happy making my own.  And I'm sure there are more than these:
