Pamamac

I've been in the Caribbean for 6 months and started making sourdough. It's been a huge success and I'd like to take my starter back to the UK. What's the best way to transport it?

Hello Pamamac,

Probably the easiest would be to dry some out and pack it in a plastic bag but you will have to be able to convince Customs that it is not Columbian Marching Powder.

It would also travel wet in a suitable sealed container.  Perhaps a quantity in a plastic bag inside something rigid (glass or plastic) with room for expansion due to both activity of the culture and the reduced air pressure in flight (assuming you are flying - checked baggage of course).  Then you only have to convince Security/Customs that it isn't Semtex.

If you are travelling by sea, then I am sure that the galley staff would be more than pleased to help you out with supplies to keep it going.

Good luck with your travels.
