My first ever sourdough.

Loafing Loges

I've done it. I've finally done it. After years of contemplation I have created a sourdough using the starter found on this website. I am very happy with the loaves apart from the fact that the kids devoured the two of them in one sitting.

Now I just have to resurrect the starter which has given up the ghost for some reason. It only has a few fine bubbles on the top and nothing happening under the surface. I'm going to clean out a jar and add a portion of it with some flour and see what happens.

I don't think the starter was properly ready because I used a half a cup in each loaf and they had 3 cups of flour in them.

The recipe was 3 cups of flour - half a cup of starter mixed with one and a quarter cups of water and salt. I didn't knead it at all and just formed it into a semi sticky ball.

It took over 24 hours to prove and was knocked back twice.

Baked it at 250c for 20 mins then 200c for about 15 mins. I use a steel bowl lined with baking paper and flour to keep the shape.

Next time I will make four loaves.

Well done loafing, funny thing about sourdough and kids, they generally LOVE it (when its well made) and will eat a lot...what does that tell us? My son`s mates.who eat junk, would ask for it when they came to our place? Hope the starter recovers, give it time.
